During your first visit to the office, Dr. Thompson will carefully listen to and address your dental concerns. Digital x-rays will be taken in order to detect any abnormalities or diseases of the bone, and to visualize any cavities or other infections of the teeth that are not able to be seen by visualization alone. Dr. Thompson will perform a complete oral cancer screening which includes external areas of the head and neck as well as soft tissues inside the mouth. Dr. Thompson will also evaluate your TMJ, or jaw joint. A thorough periodontal (gum) evaluation will be completed including the detection of any inflammation of the gums, or gingivitis, measurement of the attachment of the gums to the teeth, and assessment of any bone loss that may have occurred due to periodontal disease. Based on the diagnosis of either gingivitis or periodontal disease, a type of professional tooth cleaning will be recommended. Dr. Thompson will then examine your teeth including the state of any existing restorations, presence of any decay/cavities, and can discuss options to replace any missing teeth. Based on these findings, a personalized comprehensive treatment plan will be reviewed with you to address your individual dental health needs.
Dr. Thompson uses the Velscope technology for early detection of abnormal tissue changes.
